Researching Your Own Family History

Researching family history is fun and rewarding. It can also be time consuming and sometimes it seems that you are not getting anywhere. I hope you will not give up! Family history is something that our future generations need to be informed of. It's a great way to keep your family pride alive.

On this page I'll describe how I went about researching my family tree in the hope that it will inspire others to give it a try. I'll talk about the process I used and any tools or software I found helpful.

I might also include links to interesting genealogy web sites I came across in the course of doing my research, such as:

National Archives of Canada
Find a grave

cyndislist.com

The ways I have started to do family research was to talk to my living family relatives. Next, I took my information and started to hit every web site I could think of to get more information. I have created this web site in hopes that I can get more information about my family history. I am also hoping that if anyone who knew a family member on the list will help me learn more about them as a person and not just a name.
Thank You

Here I might put some tips about researching a family tree, for example:

Be sure to evaluate the source of your information. Remember, you can't believe everything you read!

Remember, most everyone has two family names: your father's, but also your mother's. Don't feel you must restrict your research to just your paternal family tree.
